Mother, friend, accused of starving 5-year-old boy to death : The Asahi Shimbun

Two women in a "master-subordinate relationship" were arrested on March 2 here in connection with the starving death of one of the women's 5-year-old son, according to police.
Fukuoka prefectural police said Rie Ikari, 39, and Emiko Akahori, 48, abandoned their duties as guardians and left Ikari’s son Shojiro to die in April 2020.
The women are accused of conspiring with each other to make Ikari’s third-born son malnourished by cutting down the frequency of his meals and the amount of food he received.

South Korea's top prosecutor resigns in protest | NHK WORLD

South Korea's top prosecutor has resigned in an apparent protest against the government's push for prosecution reforms.
Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl expressed his intention to resign on Thursday.
Yoon told reporters that the spirit of the Constitution and the system of rule of law are crumbling. He said that it is hard to witness common sense and justice collapsing.

Rio and Mongolia agree to replace $7bn plan to expand copper mine - Nikkei Asia

After weeks of escalating tensions and leadership turmoil, Mongolia and Rio Tinto have agreed to work out a new arrangement to finance the costly expansion of the vast Oyu Tolgoi copper mine, Nikkei Asia has learned.
The rising cost of the new underground phase of the mine, one of the world’s biggest copper deposits, played a role in bringing down both Mongolia’s previous prime minister and Rio’s last chief executive. This appears to have helped set the stage for changing the terms of how the two co-owners of the project will share the expense.

Las Vegas Sands sells its casinos in $6 billion deal - CNN

Las Vegas Sands Corp., the upscale resort and casino company founded by the late Sheldon Adelson, is leaving its namesake city and selling its two Nevada properties in a $6.25 billion deal.
Apollo Global Management and Vici Properties are partnering to buy the Venetian, a 7,000 room resort on the Las Vegas Strip, and the nearby Sands Expo and Convention Center. Apollo is paying $2.25 billion for Venetian's operating company and Vici is buying the land and real estate assets for the remaining $4 billion.

Prince Philip has successful procedure for heart condition | The Guardian

The Duke of Edinburgh has undergone successful surgery for a pre-existing heart condition, Buckingham Palace has said.
Prince Philip, 99, is being treated at St Bartholomew’s hospital in central London, after being transferred there on Monday.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Thursday: “The Duke of Edinburgh yesterday underwent a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition at St Bartholomew’s hospital.
